Links and blog roll

Some miscellaneous interesting/inspiring/comment-worthy links:

  1. Follow up to Mitch Resnick's talk (that I discussed here) :
  2. Engineers quit jobs to teach kids
  3. Fun algebra class
Also there are some interesting reads in my blog roll! I try as much as possible to find things like this. If you have a blog or know of a blog that belongs in that roll, do send me a comment!

What do you think of NDTV's school building initiative?

Hi Nagarjun

Thanks for stopping by.

I followed the recent day long collection drive with Sachin and Aishwarya on NDTV. I am always glad to see these ventures and know that money is essential for basic infrastructure that we severely lack in rural areas. Especially inspiring was the story of Professor Sandeep Desai who literally goes begging for donations in Mumbai trains - using these to build schools.

While this is absolutely essential I think that we have a far larger problem than lack of infrastructure. In the schools that do exist now, the quality of education seems to be hurting kids more than helping them. Of course this is another idealistic (read unrealistic) statement that I make. But I will elaborate on what I mean shortly in another blog post.

Now. What do you think of this initiative? I would love to hear.
